3. One change

National (not Florida-only): EPA Technology Transitions reconsideration — residential/light-commercial R-410A install deadline removed; commercial refrigeration pieces still contested.

What shop owners can verify: EPA’s May 2026 final reconsideration removes the Jan 1, 2026 installation deadline for residential and light-commercial HVAC that uses R-410A, for equipment manufactured or imported before Jan 1, 2025, until existing supply is depleted. NAHB reports the rule effective July 27, 2026.

Still argued / contested (stated neutrally): Industry groups (including HARDI, PHCC, and ACCA) support the residential/light-commercial install-deadline relief but have challenged other portions of the same rule (especially extended timelines for certain commercial refrigeration applications). Separate suits (e.g. AHRI / Alliance) also target parts of the reconsideration. Courts — not this newsletter — will decide those pieces. Do not treat “A2L install ban after Jan 1, 2026” as settled fact for residential/light commercial without checking current EPA text and your state/local rules.

Florida angle: No Florida-specific override of the residential install relief was verified on the pages below. Always confirm local AHJ / code practice before quoting a hard install cutoff to customers.
